Dr. Kevin Toms grew up in central Virginia. As a young teenager, having braces appealed to his mechanical interests. Watching the changes that occurred during his own treatment inspired him later to pursue a career in dentistry and eventually orthodontics.
Dr. Toms graduated from James Madison University with a Bachelor of Science in health sciences. He earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the School of Dentistry, Medical College of Virginia, at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. After dental school, he completed a two-year general practice residency at McGuire Veterans Administration Medical Center in Richmond, VA. He feels that taking care of the dental needs of our country’s military veterans was one of the most rewarding experiences in his career.
For the next two years, Dr. Toms worked as a general dentist in the Northern Virginia area before continuing his education in the field of orthodontics, his ultimate career goal. He and his family moved to Brooklyn, New York, so he could complete a three-year orthodontics residency program at Maimonides Medical Center.
Dr. Toms and his wife Michelle met while they were both in dental school at Virginia Commonwealth University. They have three small children. The Toms family is happy to be back in the Northern Virginia area. Dr. Toms looks forward to serving the community and creating beautiful, healthy smiles for his patients.
In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, horseback riding, fishing, and following the Nationals. Go Nats!
